Amazing photographs

Color photography was invented in 1935 – yet a collection of photographs of Russia circa 1910 exists.  The photographer traveled all over Russia for  Tsar Nicolas II, and took three pictures of each subject, using red, green and blue filters.  They were combined & projected, and I have to say, it is truly amazing to see how sharp, clear and new these photos are!  It is hard to believe they are from 100 years ago.

The Boston Globe published some of them last week:

The original glass plates are at the Library of Congress. You can view all 2600 photos, and each online record will show the composite filtered photo, the black & whites, & then the recombined projected photo (where the colors look real).

Just amazing.

Super Flash Flash Fiction

So I’ve joined a writers’ group where we get a 90 minute window to respond to a prompt.  Yikes!

This will help me with my “butt-in-the-seat” problem, and also with that pesky self-editor.  I’ve managed to complete a story twice now, the first one I used an idea I’d been tossing around, the second one I came up with fresh at the starting gun.

Clearly draft form, I’m half embarrassed about them and half proud that I actually typed a story in 90 minutes.

Will put them up after revising to a point where I’m not quite so mortified.
